Reflection

A Poem by Doug
"

I've been thinking about this one for awhile.

"

When I look at the cause
of a child’s tears, a broken toy
or a bruised knee, neglected want–
not need– I can’t help but think:
“How little you know of the world.”

When I see those children,
ignorant of the pain to come,
the sorrow that will consume them,
sometimes I can’t help but laugh
in that moment before I weep

I really like this one.
"sometimes I can't help but laugh
in that moment before I weep" really gets to me. They have no idea, they are so content with how things are... At times don't you miss that childhood ignorance?

...and how little we know the world as adults with our more complex broken toys and bruises
and how our guides must laugh and weep for us too...
thought provoking piece!

Sometimes having the perspective granted by age and experience is neither comforting nor ennobling. You relate that message here succinctly and effectively.

sometimes we all just need someone to soothe our fears away, tuck us in and sing us to sleep

we are all that child, sometimes
