A Lesson

A Lesson

A Poem by Doug

I don’t quite know just what to say

When oft you ask me so-

“Why do you sit on dewy ground

And watch the flowers grow?”

“Well sit and see I say to thee

And peace you’ll surely know-

But I don’t think you’ll sit with me

To watch the day’s wind blow.”

“Why, O why? Tis wrongly so!

Even a fool can see!

It’s not only you, but myself too

That can rest below the tree!”

“Of course, of course, sit some you may,

But peace you’ll never know-

For one must stop and stay a while

To truly sit below.”

“Why, O why? You have me wrong!

For great spans I can stay!

I’ll sit all day, and sit all night

As long as clouds aren’t grey!”

“Ah yes, but that your problem be!

The weather is the key!

You cannot sit in the sunshine

And with the storm agree!

It’s the fury of the tempests

And rains that never cease

That bring the flowers bright with life

And fill the soul with peace.”

This is absolutely beautiful! I love everything about this. It reads like a classic piece and I love how you've crafted this so eloquently. It is such a beautiful lesson to learn - there is such beauty around us and few take the time to truly see it.

Very enjoyable lesson and how we often fail to see the most wonderful of nature
in front of us, love the old feel to this and the very english way it is written. For many rain is the
most precious gift............giver of life.

Very well written piece of work here. I love how you are able to express yourself so perfect that any one that reads your words is able to feel the emotion and strength of them. I always enjoy the thoughts that your words leave laying in my mind. I always appreciate being left to think and ponder.

Great Job!!!!!

Ach, pesky rain, but vital to all. Liked the gentle wit and wisdom of this. And being in touch with nature is a wonderful thing.
