Ode to Forgotten Memories

Ode to Forgotten Memories

A Poem by Doug

I frown, my hope dies,

Blown away with sands of time-

Lights out, slow sunset,

I wish silent my face wet.

I smile as I splash in

Pools of happy memories-

I laugh and I cry and

When I forget, inside I die.

Peace for you, but not for me.

Peace for you, but not for me was a very strong way to end a poem. I loved every word in this piece and another line I really liked was...........................
"When I forget, inside I die." It saddens my heart to know a person can feel so sad. This was a great write Aista Aini! thanks for sharing.

Sometimes it seems that all we are is our memory. To remember people, places and things, to be remembered by others, whilst we live and after we leave this place. Yet old memories are replaced by new and it can be difficult to hold onto them. A poignant piece, giving the reader pause for thought. Well done!

I smile as I splash in
Pools of happy memories

Great imagery here, who doesn't feel joy in good memories? Water seems to convey mood as well, so it's a good choice for a comparison.

I laugh and I cry and
When I forget, inside I die.

Again, very strong ties with emotions and memories. What makes a person a person is in part, the sum of their memories, a blueprint to their life. Forgetting is to lose sense of yourself, in effect, dying. Christ that's good.

Peace for you, but not for me.

There is no peace for a person who wallows in the bad memories or loses sense of themself. Death might be the only peace they find, but not for this poor soul. Spiritually, they are decaying, but they live on in limbo and have no satisfaction. Peace to those that don't deal with the storeroom of memories the writer has to and he envies them for that. At least, that's how I read it. This was a really excellent write. Quick, concise and poetic.

This very deep and a thinker piece. I really enjoyed the way you conveyed yourself and words in this one a lot. Very strong voice but in a passive style.

Great Job!!!
