The Color Dark

The Color Dark

A Poem by Johann L. Kohler
"

I suppose this could be called my first major "beat poetry" piece, in a way. It's a lot less structured than the rest of my "spoken word" submissions however you look at it. I was feeling pretty crappy. 20 Oct 2007

"

the blue glow of a hazy streetlight
reflected in your eyes before
you turned away from me
and i fell to my knees and
cried until i couldn't breathe
and the world started to spin
blue, grey, orange, white
until it was just one color

dark as night, as the ink of the
letter i wrote you when i
realized i needed you and
everything we did is now
dark, and nighmarish when the
stars don't come out and you
don't hear me crying your name
in the cold autumn air that
i can't breath easy anymore,
because the leaves are orange
and falling just like my hopes again
and i just wanted you in autumn,

one more night in your warm embrace
because that's all i ask of this life,
all i wanted, to want you to turn back
and lift me to my feet and tell me
that i was okay
but you didn't
you just walked away
