Strength

Strength

A Poem by K. A. Stone
"

To our veterans. Strength of the heart.

"

Strength

He stands in the doorway, watching his small child,

Trying to forget the horrors he remembers from the wild.

A tear slips down his face,

And he quickens his pace,

Trying to escape the ghosts that haunt him.

He finds it hard to see past them,

And his life begins to fade away.

All he sees is that bloody day.

His heart cried,

When he found out they lied,

That war wasn’t all that they said.

Now so many are dead.

He can’t change the past,

And the memories will last,

But he can still tell his story,

And cry out when it happens again.
