True LoveA Poem by K. A. StoneThree quatrain look at the pain of first loves.True love is when you shed a tear and still want him. It’s when he ignores you and you still care for him. It’s when he loves another but you still smile and say ‘I’m happy for you’. When all you really do is cry... and cry. True love is what keeps you silent while they walk away, Even knowing they would turn around and stay. It makes you pause before hitting ‘send’ on that confession, And hit ‘delete’ instead. True love is breaking your own heart to save his. It’s letting him hate you because he needs to. It’s spending hours with him on the phone, When you know the five minutes she does will mean more. True love keeps you up all night wondering, Even though your dreams are so much sweeter. It makes you hold back the hand that wants to reach for him, And watch as he reaches for her. © 2009 K. A.
