Just Another Night

Just Another Night

A Poem by Sounak Saha

Here I stand,on a path of no return,

And into the darkness it leads..

No bend,nor curve..not even a turn..

Undeterred;as men of solemn deeds..

The road led into the heart of the Night,

On and on,as far as the eyes can see...

No moment spared..to past misfortune and plight..

I took the road that was calling to me..

There were no footsteps that I could follow,

Or,withered leaves have hid them for days...

They rustled, they hushed, till the wind stays..

And every sound the shadows would swallow..

The wise ones said,"Do not go there my child..

Of all treacherous paths it is one.."

You will lose your soul..there in the wild...

And the quest yet,may come undone...

I remember those words and can only grimace,

What else is left here in the light...

The road will lead to the heart of the Night,

and within it's embrace I will find solace..

Maybe ,at the end,of the ceaseless Night,

Faith..will be worth my every breath..

What shall I discover, beneath blazing starlight...

Maybe a friendly voice..maybe Death.

I know not fear..I know not pain..

With nothing left for Loss, and, all to Gain..

A distant howl in the pale moonlight,

The faraway stars,as jewels of the Night,

ahead, a road, that has no name..

All trails erased..yet all the same..

On and on,into the heart of the Night..

Away and away, from the blinding Light...
