Detective Devil

Detective Devil

A Poem by Sounak Saha
"

Just read and describe in any way you deem fit!

"

Part 1-Devona
The call was short..apt and absurd,

In whom shall the old confide?

His child stood by every word!

"Devona..Devona..Devona..",he sighed.

All he wanted was a wedding dress,

A groom for her to espouse..

Her reply so harsh,he does confess-

"They're all born in a white whorehouse!"

The aged one,how could he know..

" 'Tis no world of glitter and foam!"

The only words that he ever hears:

"There ain't no place like home!"

Part 2-Damnation

The medical man..he wears a frown:
"I know a bloke round the bloc-"
- he is stopped..a rousing laugh..
"So I'm dead my dear doc!"

"Your lungs are now charcoal black,
The kidneys are a clogged drain!"
Yet again!She smiles back..
"Then there is no reason to refrain."

The doctor bids Devona farewell..

His needs are at an end..

A hallowed soul that fears no doom,

With no purpose to defend.

The night was cold,and then,serene..

And the snow like crystal shards..

A flickering flame beneath her eyes,

Found a fading trail of nicotine..

Part 3-Demons

A decade past, since the Bright Red Sun,

That scorched the clouds! So grey,

So pale!The the torn-away veil..

In the blinding light of Day!

The crimson stream that could not hide,

Within tangled flesh and bone..

A besmeared womb for whom none

mourn,

But the naked child beside...

And alas!the child could not weep..

For the corpse which laid there cold

And stained by a red shade so deep..

Such the dead cannot withhold..

A blade of steel,and a dash!

Between the breasts it tore..

Through a heart's bleeding gash..

The child's soul was no more..

She shan't return from whence she came,

She knew not where to tread..

Like a scripture etched in her head:

" 'Mother' was her name."

Part 4-Divinity

"Convicted Crawl!"-in letters bold-
" The Daily thrills for life!"
A liar' s tool,in every fold..
A tinge of truth they cannot revive.

Each time she tries,to shut the eyes..
That forgot the visage of Fear,
Her heart revolts,her mind endures..
"Devona!Devona!Devona!"- they sneer!

A silver badge,and a holster tool,
The harbinger of Justice,called..
All trodden souls,so petty a fool!
Left at it's face appalled..

"Detective!"-aye-that's what they knew..
Their beloved Devona to be,
And as demons born with Angel skin,
They know not what they see!

Each wisp of smoke upon her lips,
And the ailing cough and breath,
They had tales that none could hear,
But the steel barrel at her tips..

The filthy lords and their b******s pile!
Or be it the murderous loon,
Who ripped the chests of man and child
-for "the Voices and their Tune!"

And Devona knew of what they dread!
She strives yet cannot hide..
The Voices turn to her instead,
Than damned souls who do not abide!

A smile!A smile!Adorns the face..
Of the demon who does not seek,
To ask the price of the Holy Grace...
"It is only meant for the weak!"

And men once, stood over her tall..
" 'It is far more than you can take!"
She heard them scoff,She saw them fall..
She prayed at stones for their sake!

So divine their hollowed screams!
Here at the midnight's stroke!
Dissolves away..like petty dreams!
In a world of Ash and Smoke!

Part 5-Drowning

The only trail of nicotine...

Not another soul, to be seen..

All vanished..in the misty night..

Underneath the moon's dismal sheen...

And not a sound on the empty road..

And yet it was not quiet..

She paid no heed, down she strode,

To the monster in plain sight..

                                                                      It crept along,within her chest-

-with its claws and gnashing teeth

It grasped her throat, clasped her heart-

And slit a vein or two underneath.

And Devona fell!In her collapse..

She gasped for every breath!

A trial of pain,in a second's lapse,

Of the judge she knew as Death!

Yet the demon did not cower,

Her vision was all a blur!

A father,a friend, their deepest endeavour

In the devoured heart did stir!

Lights in streaks and in amber flashed,

As a palette of black and silver splash.

Grey silhouettes outlined in a haze,

And yet the agony did not erase!

She coughs!And scoffs!And she does

cringe,

As if bullets rained down her neck,

Some voices rose,soon nearby,

And the decade past's crimson tinge!

Blood and blood everywhere!

Her hands were still soaked,

A siren wailed away somewhere..

A glimmer of hope it revoked

                                                                   Her voice subdued,her hands foiled,

And soon all was black,

Her lips curled for a smile..

As she dived into the void..
