Lights

Lights

A Story by Soultail

Just a small piece of light lingers everywhere. I keep looking for them, sometimes finding them. I cherish them, put them in a jar. My jar of light. But sometimes the darkness dwells, dimming the light. And I try to keep them bright and luminescent. But sometimes it doesn’t work, and the dark swallows the light. But I don’t give up. I hold the light to my heart, and curl around them. I try to keep them warm, I really do. But nobody believes me. Everybody says that I let them go dark, that I give up on them. And the darkness grows. It penetrates me, poisoning my light. And I fight against it. I won’t give up. I will help the light grow. And the darkness rears its ugly head, and charges. And I let it. Because as long as I help the light, I can make a difference. I can help that little piece of light that’s left. Until the darkness gives up. But it never does. And one day, it could win. But I will put up one hell of a fight to keep my light bright. I won’t give up, I won’t give up.
