A new Day

A new Day

A Chapter by Soulchild

It was 8am on a Thursday morning and Antwone wished to sleep longer, the sticky air made it difficult to sleep all the way through. “It's not possible to sleep more” he thought, there was so much he had to do.

He was excited yet afraid at the same time. “We only have the present.” he said “So I need to make the most of that.”

He thought about the fact he had to pack his things and get the apartment in order. He stood up and stretched his arms above his head, he felt so tense.

After his morning stretch he approached to the curtains and drew them open, the sun was blinding it was quite humid outside still. He thought to himself, “This will be a very long day. Yet it will be full of purpose.”

He went to the wardrobe and picked out a pair of Shorts and a T-Shirt and all the other things he needed walked to the bathroom and began to shave, he thought to himself “The tasks he has to carry out Mini Mart, Warehouse, and back home pack something’s, contact some friends and family about possibility of visiting in his mind he only thought about one thing his moms sister.”

He knew his first destination would be there, “Reading, Ohio.” He remembered visiting there when he was small around 10 years old.

So much has changed he has not talked to his mom’s sister in many years, after her death they all grew apart. “It was sad, sometimes these things happen.

People just don't know how to cope or they have to simply go back to their own lives which also may have many struggles.” he thought. “Yet, it was sad to see that after his mother died how everyone became more distant, I guess it was their own way of coping with things. It also showed how powerful his mothers soul was it pulled everyone together.”

He smiled with this thought of his mother.

“My Journey starts in Ohio.” he thought.

After shaving he brushed his teeth, took a nice cool shower more cold water than hot.

House was humid and sticky so he opened the windows to let whatever air was available to circulate.

After showering and dressing he looked at himself in the mirror and said “Let's do this.” he entered the kitchen and prepared his breakfast which consisted of Natural Yogurt and Muesli.

He ate that, drank some water from the Refrigerator.

Took a banana from the fruit he had on the counter grabbed his phone, keys and his backpack and left the apartment.

He arrived at the warehouse where he worked. Just after 40 minutes of leaving his apartment.

The company was dealing in plywood for construction companies; they supplied it to various businesses around the state.

First objective was to meet with the manager and explain the situation that he was leaving due to family issues and does not think he will return.

He did not have the time to tell the manager about his sudden urge to chase his dreams.

Just so he can discredit him by talking to his colleagues like he had some mental issues, he was not afraid just didn't need the unwanted negative energies that came with it.

So he said only thing that the manager would understand and would not question, as the reasons were of a personal nature.

After the meeting which even to his surprise went extremely well, “follow the signs” he muttered under his voice. “Everything will eventually become clear.” he continued.

Things were seemingly brighter; he had this ambient glow about him now. He felt connected to all around him; his energy levels were full all the time. Like he was connected directly to the soul of the world.

“Hey, Antwone!” He heard a voice from a distance, “how's things?” Antwone turned to notice it was his good friend Clive.

Clive was 39 lived with his wife a Janice and his 10 year old daughter Kayla.

He was an honest man; he was like his very own guru when he had troubled times. He always had time for Clive and vice versa.

He was a good friend indeed. “Not many people like him in the world today.” he thought to himself. “

Always doing good and striving to make an honest living to support his wife and kid. He was just recently promoted to Assistant Manger here at the warehouse and that made things a little easier for him.”

After Antwone's, mother’s death. Clive was the only one that sat and listened. In the end that’s all he needed a consoling ear to let out his pain and help him accept the situation that had been placed before him.

Yet despite all his support he still turned his back on everyone including him and took myself to a dark place.

Clive was the only that understood and was patient, others looked at me in an odd manner like he was crazy or something, not understanding all that he had lost at that very moment.

When he started opening himself up again he spoke with Clive; he did not act strange with me. We just picked up as if we had never been apart. That's friendship Antwone thought; “Trust, forgiveness and understanding.”

“These are the three main ingredients to a long healthy friendship.

“Our devils make it hard for us to think in such a rational way, it’s always plotting and scheming in your head, filling your mind with needless paranoia.

This is not healthy people should always follow their hearts because everyone deserves our trust and the benefit of the doubt.

We should not be so hasty when meeting new people; everyone deserves a degree of trust.

If not people will only show us what we fear or what we expect of them. Not because it’s who they are, but because it’s what we expected in the first place.”

Hey Clive, I am doing well.” Antwone responded “how are things with you and the family?” Clive replied “Could not be any better.” Antwone smiled “You working today.” Clive asked.

“Unfortunately I just quit, I can't really talk about it here, but I will explain you in the evening if you have any free time?” he responded,

Clive then said “hmmmm. Ok, I will talk to Janice and let her know I will be dropping by the bar to meet you after work and tell her I will be home a little later.”

“Thanks.” said Antwone.

I better let you get back to work I will go say my goodbyes.
