Tipping the PointA Chapter by SoulchildAntwone thoughts were pouring in more and more but these thoughts were good they were positive and shown him one thing he was more alive than he had ever known.
“My struggles destroyed my confidence the devil was winning the war within in me for my soul, but now I have taken it back. Its mines now and I will do only good things with it.
My light will shine as it should. Just as children do. And the fear that made me insecure has dissipated.”
“Time is all we have on this earth and I will use this time to fulfill my dreams and change my ways. I was afraid to follow my dreams; I do not need to be a surgeon or a doctor of extreme significance.
I can be a counselor or a psychologist as these are trades of a doctor also. And I believe that god is not finished with me I have one last chance to make an impact on this world.”
Antwone had a glow about him when he came from the back to talk to the manager, “Are we done for today?” he asked, manger said “yes”
Antwone went to the back and changed his shirt and folded them neatly he put the name badge on top and walked to the cashier desk were the manager stood.
Presented the uniform and he said” I would like to let you know that today will be my last day here.” The manager said “What you talking about?” Antwone replied “I am leaving this town this weekend, it’s time for me too finally follow my dreams, I have a purpose in life and to be honest so do you.”
The manager looked at him like he was high or something “When is the last time you thought about your dreams? What you always wanted to do?” I am too old for dreams said the manager. “We are never too old to find true happiness and it’s only then we reach that pinnacle point in our lives can we truly feel complete.”
Manager said “I am not sure” in a disappointed tone, “Been a long time since I thought about it.” “Maybe it’s something that you might want to try and regain.” Said Antwone
“Been a pleasure and I wish you all the best. I am sorry that I cannot work the notice you require, yet, I am sure that you will find a summer helper who can fill in until you decide it’s your time to move on.”
Manager understood Antwone's need to leave and wished him well he told Antwone to come collect his wages tomorrow.
He agreed and left to walk home.
On the way home he walked past the house of the little boy whom he met earlier that day, the one that said one small phrase that changed his entire perspective on life
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Antwone walked passed stopped and thought about knocking the door. But what will the woman think when he said “Hi, I was talking to your son today.” she will think he is some sick pedophile or something.
So he decided against it then he had thought about his changes. I need to be more courageous he thought. He turned and started walking back, as he did an old lady came out of the home next door and she smiled at him he said “Hello” she returned the gesture. She sat on the swing on her porch and started to read a book. He got to the house on the corner as he walked up the path he seems that the home was not well maintained.
He knocked on the mesh door, no answer. He knocked again. He started to think it was bad idea. But forced him not to give in to fear. He opened the mesh and knocked the door.
The old lady sitting next door removed her reading glasses and said “Son! Who are you looking for.?”
He replied “A young boy lives here with his mom. He was playing with his ball in the street I talked with earlier in today. His name is Jalen.”
Woman told him “I am sorry son, but Jalen died 5 years ago. He was only 6 years old. His mother was devastated so she moved away, back to her family in the city.” “Can I ask what happened?” Antwone asked.
“He just got home from school that day his mother bought him a new ball. He was so excited about it he wanted to play straight away, his mom said after dinner but she saw he was eager and let him play in the garden with it.
He lost control of the ball and the ball rolled down the street and got lodged under a car. Jalen went to retrieve it and when he finally freed the ball he stepped out towards the road and was hit by an oncoming car the driver could not move quick enough as he could not see Jalen until the last minute emerging from behind the parked car.” Antwone's heart sank. He asked “how she knew?” she said “I saw it from my window.”
Antwone said goodbye to the old lady and continued on home, He had so many thoughts going through his mind again.
First being that he was an angel, he was sent to bring me back on course. “I can't understand this” he said. And then he remembered he never seen omens, and this was the first that opened his eyes and caused him to reflect on his past and the things he need to fix. “On saying the word fix the words of Jalen came to mind. “Sometimes things work better broken.” © 2011 SoulchildFeatured Review
