Mirror

Mirror

A Poem by DarkPoet

Everyone has and needs a mirror
Where shadows of the past lurk and one catches a glimpse of the future
Being before one is scary like a guilty soul in front of a judge and jurors
I leave feeling drained, helpless, and
with a fearful image of a weird creature

I am suddenly aware of the painful reality
Of how tomorrow was stolen from yesterday
And you can hide, wish or pray the effect away
Each glimpse is rewarded with a different kind of brutality

Each glance unlocks a deeper level of intimacy
Where clearly into me I see
Still, all my love is never enough
I break down right after but I try to act tough

I can't escape the mirror though I don't like what I see
If things were different I imagine what would be
One reflection rightly portraying we
I am not the mirror but it's a part of me
