InnocenceA Poem by MarlenaYou were a fork in the road And I just had to choose where to go You were always under my feet With gray touched clouds in the sky So cold in winter We huddled for warmth and you would Pull me close You were always just two different paths Outlined with dying trees and branches Reaching for the sky and I just don’t know why I never noticed they were reaching for me Because I walked that solid straight path, Unable to decide I went between you, and you did too You didn’t know which way to go You had so many ways you could’ve gone You started by showing me how to be And then when I strayed, you strayed too And now you’re nothing but an unpaved Hardly trodden road, I’ve no clue where you lead When I return to you, using old maps and photographs To plan my way ahead, you never respond The way I hope, the way I know you should Since you stopped talking to me Those dying trees are covered in vibrant green leaves And I realize now, I should be sorry I never meant to hold you back We were only children holding hands Skipping on futures and what we wanted tomorrow to be I didn’t know I held you back. © 2010 MarlenaAuthor's Note
