SoulFlowersA Poem by MarlenaThe sun burns the Earth and souls spring like daisies.Sitting in this circle of grass My feelings like the wind Strong and violent and unseen Raking through me, my hair and down My throat, I heave and look The sun It burns the Earth and the souls spring Like daisies black and white flowers Roses and fuzzy things Dandelions, I pick one Just one, between shaking pale fingers And soft pink nails and chewed cuticles I twirl it There is a name engraved on its bone stem Cursive and neatly there It reads ----- I crush it. I stand to the rising winds and burning heat Sun so bright and white Raise my hands to the sky and beg for salvation So many black souls and so little white The purity in this world turned ugly by truth And what hides beneath the dirt. I walk, so far my legs give out And my knees bend and smash into muddy dirt It rains The wind howls and I breathe So much emotion So much rain Miles upon miles of black souls I have walked and Found so few white Only a few, people I already knew But nothing new. I fall forward plant my fists in the Earth Between clutches of decaying grass and Starved bone stems Gray White and black but so beautiful A change in the Earth One needed Silken petals and fragranced so sweetly I kiss the grayness, shattered black and white And when the rain stops and wind picks up Again, I tug the flower soul from the Earth And offer it to the sun And the Earth turns white With one lonely gray soul Beautiful in it's broken and silken despair. © 2010 MarlenaAuthor's Note
