Fear of the Dark

Sleep sleep just sleep

there are noises all around me

shadows, too and this darkness is deep

but the creatures I imagine can't possibly be

It's just my room, nothing more

no monsters with yellow eyes,

nothing hiding behind the closet door,

but the shadows hold lies.

No, no, no just shadows

they can't move, they can't speak

they can't scream or shriek--

shadows

that's all they are,

nothing scary here, I swear---

Christ what was that?!

---just relax--- nothing scary over there.

---

Words won't comfort me,

not until I truly see

what the shadows hide

because this strange fear, deep inside,

won't leave me alone, it's strong and stark

I wish I knew how to get rid of this fear of the Dark.

Author's Note

Oy....One of the worst nights EVER last night. I had REALLY bad fear of the dark when I was little, like so bad that I slept with the light on for a looooong time. Over active imagination- either way, every once in a while I go back like, five or six years and am suddenly terrified by the dark again. Happened last night. Completely and utterly sucked.
