We drive.
The windows are down, a summer wind as warm and hazy as a lover’s breath passes through the car. We don’t know where it is we’re going, but we keep driving because of that. In the sky behind us, water filled rain clouds as grey and deep as darkened eyes sit along the air. The pavement and road beneath the wheels are shining with the recent rainfall, reflecting the dying sun’s light like a goodnight kiss to the world. The wind tousles your hair, whipping it around your handsome face in a frenzy. You look to me and smile; you’ve got one hand on the wheel and the other tapping on the outside of the door, your arm resting on the open window space. I smile back at you. I turn my head and look too. It’s breathtaking, it’s been raining for the past few hours but in the distance the sky is lined with clouds of a softer grey than those behind us. Fingers of light blue sky reach up through the clouds, fading to a gentle green, then yellow and orange and pink. The colors are so beautiful, powdered looking like new pastels on an artist’s pallet, and beneath them and behind the trees is a sun so orange and vibrant I can’t seem to breathe. I glance back at you and see that scene reflected in your eyes. It’s then that I know what we’re driving to. Windows open, the Earth as our music, your fingers tapping on the car, and the sun set before us; we drive.
