We're Free for a Reason

Don't stand behind our troops? Feel free to stand in front of them.

I love how we fought

and lately it seems

no one will have a second thought

go ahead, complain to me

tell me how you hate we're in war

tell me how you want us to pull out

cry to me, let me know

I dare you

why is it that no one can see?

Why is it, that honestly

so many people believe we should give up?

If the people before us had done that,

just given up,

we wouldn't be the land of the free.

We wouldn't be able to write like this

because of freedom

we have these things

Who says to give up?

We are not cowards

we are the land of the free

because we're brave.

 

Author's Note

I wrote this for a couple of reasons, one being I love America, the other being that there is this kid in one of my classes, I won't say his name, but he wears this coat with all these patches on it. I realized the other day, one of them says "F--- the USA" in big bold letters and it pissed me off. My uncle was in war, I know people whose families are in Iraq right now fighting for HIS right to wear that little jacket of his. It bothers me because, honestly, it seems like everyone is so big on getting out of war when no one really realizes that if we didn't go to war, so many worse things could've happened. Those people in 9/11 would've died for no reason, at least, that's how I think of it. Let me know what you think. God bless the USA :D <3

I agree with you on a couple points,one being that so many things would have changed if our ancestors had given up. But the thing is, even though the war started with defending the people of 9/11, it ended up being a war for oil. And that is the part I don't like. I hate fighting anyway, I;'m the peace maker unless you get me really angry, but really, I think war is only affective if your doing it for the right reasons and you make it known, none of the "top secret" and government giberish crap...

I agree with you too. People only think of what is happening becasue of the war and not what might happen if there was none. ALso, weren't there poeple who did n't want the civil war? if that didn't happen the country would be very different.

Amen, sister. Too many people don't realize exactly why we fight. America is a brave country, and the only reason we're free is because of that bravery. No other country fights like we fight. We're willing to put everything on the line be it for ourselves or other countries. Our troops are fighting for us, and so many people just don't understand that.

Great poem, you put so much of your belief in this. If more people read pieces like this maybe at least one of them would be able to see how true it is.
