Lord Show Me The Way

I’ve had enough of the devil

I just wanna escape his evil

Lord won’t you show me your endless mercy

And make my life forever rosy

 

I just wanna escape these painful streets I grew upon

Lord won’t you make a spiritual path for me to walk upon

Now my friends say buddy that ain’t gonna happen

You’re asking help from the wrong person

 

But I don’t believe what they say, no I just won’t believe what they say

On my knees I will continue to pray, Oh Lord won’t you show me the way.

As a practising atheist with agnostic leanings the poem didn't read as a prayer. Simply a piece of religious poetry.
The Title may need to be considered. In these times, seeing your title, people may expect a cynical or humerous piece, rather than a work that obviously comes from your heart. That I think is where the poems strength lies. You have a strong belief. That gives this poem as much integrity as any of the multitudinous love poetry that swamps WC.
I do like the feel of it. It makes me smile.
Technically it iss handled extremely well. It has good flow, meter and cracking imagry with a nice Evangelic twang. I have to admit a slight jealousy at the way you handle the words. Really cracking but of work.
