LoyaltyA Poem by DeleVan Sonta-an DellErbaThe title says it all...
I used to be loyal to all the wrong things.
Like a dog is loyal to even an abusive owner, I was loyal to an obtrusive donor of false dreams. I sat at the doorstep of hopes and waited for my master to come . . . And when he did not, my faith came undone. But the maven caught me misbehaving And I fled like a raven in the night In plight, unseen by the grounded ones. Yes, he was skilled and willed me to him And I looked into the eyes of demise, Tasting the salty sins of sorrow. But, wait, there is always tomorrow! That hopeful rise of the sun after what was said and done Is just a memory fading in the ethers of the mind" To rewind, undo, erase that little bit of unfortunate time. Here we are now, smiling and enjoying each moment, It seems just yesterday that I'd never know atonement. How quickly did my heart realign with Divine will When I finally allowed my soul to be still, And reflect the skies many tries of reaching me. How quietly did I listen to the cosmic beating heart That would be my fresh start to everything. I sing because if I did not I would weep or laugh, They are the same emotion at different ends of the spectrum: One stems from sadness, the other from gladness, Each a release of the internal beast of passion, sorrow, joy, a cathartic moment in eternity to simply BE. There is a fine line when it comes to placing your loyalty And you must be ever so wary. Are you devoted to the filling of your selfish abode? Or are you steadfast in lightening another's load? Do you place dedication in only those closest to you, Or do you give to they who have only a few? Loyalty is a beautiful thing, the noblest spirit-fruit, Just be certain that it is not your will in which it takes root.
