One Black Rose

One Black Rose

A Poem by sorentense
"

I wish I could say that this was just a piece about Phantom of the Opera. But it's not.

"

A single black rose, all faded and torn,
Sits on my desk - why it's there I can't say.
A scentless flower, with too many thorns;
All that remains of a bitter bouquet.

Once in time it was sweet, a deep rich red,
With velvet petals and a long, smooth stem.
Black ribbon tied 'round, it lay on my bed,
Addressed to me as 'a gift from a friend'.

Time passed; my rose shone, a miracle blossom
Tied to a friendship bound for destruction.
More thorns grew with our painful emotion,
Red turned black as my care met rejection.

The rose alone stays, and it should burn, too;
Yet I cannot lose my last tie to you.

A very melancholy way to describe the fading of love... very intense and creative.
