She had received astounding amounts of financial aid and countless recommendations to attend M.H.A.’s newest program for the school, M.H.A.G.T. (Mountain Heights Academy for Gifted Teens). Kiley is notorious as “Angelic Grace” by her family and friends because of her abilities of having the power to manipulate light and manifest its energy into arrows of light. She also has retractable cloud-white wings that can carry her high above the skies. M.H.A.G.T. sent her a transfer form so she can come to America and learn how to use her powers for heroism. Kiley’s snow white heels make an echoing galloping sound with each graceful stride she takes. It’s her first day and she’s already late to her first period, “Heroic Fundamentals”. She comes to a halt as she arrives at the door of the classroom. She straightens her frilled skirt and tucks a dove’s feather behind her ear; it’s a gift given to her by her grandfather before she left. Kiley takes in a deep breath, exhales, and relaxes her shoulders. Then she enters. “So as all of you should know, keeping
your identity a…,” the teacher stops his lesson and turns his head towards
Kiley’s direction. The rest of the class follows suit. She sees a group of
girls; the one girl with a ponytail held back by a seashell hair clip, starts
gossiping about Kiley, while making frequent eye-contact. Nothing makes high school worse than the mean
girls who think they are all that. Then some guys whistle and make dog noises
directed at Kiley, making her cheeks burst with color. Some of the guys were
looking at her like she is a gazelle that was just thrown into a lion’s den. “Good morning…and you are?” the
teacher asks, obviously annoyed that a random student just interrupted his
lesson. “Oh! Yes! My name is Kiley Travers
sir. London, England exchange student sir.” She replies and regains her
graceful posture. “Ah yes, Ms. Travers. Welcome to
M.H.A.A. and especially to your first period of Heroic Fundamentals. I am Mr.
Saccone. Please find any available seat and we’ll continue our lesson.” He
happily says. Kiley looks about
the room of super humans and notices a girl waving. She has copper-colored skin
and head of braided blazing blue hair. Emphasis on the blazing part because the
girl is literally on fire. Kiley sets down her bag and sits next to the flaming
girl. “Thank you Ms. Rayhart, for being an
exceptionally appropriate citizen of society and for giving our new student a
helping hand. Extra credit is well deserved here.” Mr. Saccone rejoices and
makes a mark next to the girl’s name on the roster sheet. “Anything to help sir,” the blazing
girl announces with a smile as bright as the sun. “Thank you for letting me sit next to
you…uh,” Kiley stops midsentence because she hasn’t caught the blazing girl’s
name yet. “Oh gosh! Sorry. I usually introduce
myself right off the bat, but then I just get too excited and when I get too
excited my hair burns scorching white as ice and then I become a wild
firecracker and then things become set aflame and…yeah.” The girl rambles on,
not mentioning her name even one in the speech she just gave. “Well that’s awesome! I’m Kiley.” She
whispers, making sure not to interrupt Mr. Saccone again. “Hi, I’m Feleisha,” the girl cheers. The two girls become instant best friends and
now they can survive the rest of high school together. They compare schedules
and find out that they have two other classes together. Next is Villain
Psychology. The girls walk into their V.P. class
and scan the crowd. Near the back row next to a window is a sad-looking boy
who’s reading a book. Surrounded by no one. “Hey! Let’s sit next to that boy over
there, no one should be alone,” Feleisha insists. They pick the closest desk to the kid
and stare at him. “Whatcha reading there?” Kiley
questions, noticing that the boy is clamming up, trying to avoid confrontation.
“I’m new here, exchange student from London actually. I was wondering…if you’d
like to be my friend?” she continues. I…I’m sorry I can’t have friends,” the
boy mutters and averts his attention back to his book, diving into its world of
imagination and knowledge. Kiley gives Feleisha a look of
puzzlement. He can’t have friends? She then stares at the boy some more,
watching him, completely mesmerized by his book’s contents. The book’s title is
“Controlling One’s Mind- Student Handbook”. “Well…if you change your mind, we’ll
be here,” Feleisha concludes and pats the boy on his back. V.P. class is over and for Kiley’s
next period, she has A.E. instead of P.E. A.E. stands for Ability Education.
The classroom can be described as a coliseum, well, because it is one. Kiley
stands in awe as she looks around the stadium. “Line up!” a man roars, he’s wearing a
dark indigo tracksuit. “Alphabetical Order!” Kiley and Feleisha find their spots
and join in the line long line of students. It seems as if there are about 40
students in this class. “Welcome! My name is Mr. Vaughn, but you
will address me as Coach V.!” the teacher shouts, his voice rough as if his
throat hurts from yelling all of the time. “In this class, you will be training
and fighting with your abilities. But most importantly, learning how to control
them. Now! Nurse McKenzie will be standing on the sidelines in any case, one of
you are injured or you know…dead.” But remember! We do not intend to kill our
enemies! Unless they are deemed too hostile to be kept alive!” Coach V. catches a few gasps and side
conversations after he mentioned the word “dead”. Chatter arose and Coach is
annoyed. He lifts up his arms and a magical aura envelops his person. After the
magic lifts, the students see Coach V. wearing a dark indigo colored magician
outfit along with a bright eggshell white top hat. “If my ability has not clicked inside
your pubescent brains, it is magic and spell conjuring!” Coach yells once more. All of a sudden, baby rabbits pour out
of Coach V.’s top hat and sit in front of their significant pair. The irony of magicians
and rabbits makes Feleisha burst out laughing, however, she immediately stops
when Coach’s piercing gaze meets hers. “Now I will extract a drop of blood
from each and every one of you. The token that lies in front of you will grow
when you either achieve a goal or learn to master control over your abilities.”
Coach instructs. All of the students’ blood is sipped
by their “tokens”. Some grow and change from white to an array of color
variations. Kiley’s token is a light
turquoise color and it is not much bigger than her heels. She sees everyone
else’s tokens, Feleisha has a fuchsia colored token that is slightly bigger
small than hers. On the other hand, the boy who was reading in their V.P. class
has a token that is almost black with white speckles all over its body and it’s
almost as big as his backpack. He literally has one of the biggest tokens out
of the entire class. “All right! Mr. Larkson and Mr. Blum!
Middle of the arena! Show us what you got!” Coach V. demands and then the boys
run to each other’s opposite sides. Kiley doesn’t catch it at first, but
the boy who was reading in her V.P. class is one of Coach’s examples. She
wonders what his abilities are. “One! Two! Three!” he calls out,
indicating that the match is has started. “Hey, what are the boys’ names?” Kiley
whispers to a girl watching the fight. “Well you have Mason Blum, the
complete package of hotness and charm…and then you have the anti-social creep,
Graysen.” The ignorant girl says with a bit of sass in her tone. The jocks stands firm in his place and
begins charging up a pulse of some kind. Immense energy waves flashing from his
body. Graysen takes a step back, studies
Mason, then turns and walks away. “Get ready freak!” Mason shouts at the
top of his lungs. A silverfish veil surrounds Mason and
a pulse of extreme sound waves rises from within his chest and shoots straight
at Graysen. Seconds before he is hit,
Graysen’s feet lift ever so slowly off the ground; he then hangs his head back,
arms stretched wide. Suddenly the impact of Mason’s power has diminished as it
has little to no effect. Graysen’s now glowing body fades in color leaving him
looking dark and dull. Kiley watches, completely shocked by
Graysen’s ability. “You’ve got this Graysen!” cheers
Feleisha from within the crowd of nervous students. Graysen opens up his fists revealing
two violet orbs that are floating in his palms. He then launches the
projectiles as fast as lightning. Absorbing into Mason’s body. “What the hell is this?” the
dumbfounded jock cries out as he starts floating up towards the ceiling. Graysen looks directly at Mason with a
sinister smile and a gleam in his eyes. Finding every essence in his body for
reasoning on why he shouldn’t…completely destroy the bully. “It’s called Anti-Gravity, you
Neanderthal!” Graysen screams, veins pulsating from within his neck. “And this
is my power of reversal projection!” He announces as the jocks twirls around in
the air. Kiley spots a portal forming above
Mason’s twisting body. But before she knew it, the same pulse of extreme sound
waves blasts downwards, encasing Mason in his own energy. The pressure of the
sound waves shred his clothes and Mason plummets to the ground like a meteor.
The jocks body crashes into the ground making a dust cloud appear around him.
The students all stare, jaws hanging low in shock. “Congrats”, comments Coach, “you’ll do
great things here.” “Mason!” the sassy girl yelps in fear
as she dashes to the boy’s distorted body. The nurse teleports next to Mason and
examines his physique. She peers through her glasses and comes to a conclusion,
“He’s alive. Aside from the broken arms and twisted ankles, he’s fine.” She
analyzes. A wave of relief washes over the
students as they shed tears and hugs, knowing that the most popular guy in
school is well and alive. Kiley shakes her head at Feleisha, showing that they
shouldn’t be sobbing over a bully’s wellbeing. He rightfully deserved to be
hurt. Graysen walks over to his token and in
a blink of an eye, it grows taller and its fur becomes more transparent. It
looks almost space-like. The white speckles become bright little sources of
light as if they are stars, living inside the token’s body. “You are pretty awesome Graysen,”
Feleisha states as she walks up to the impervious kid. “I don’t care if you
said that you can’t have friends because me and Kiley, we are your friends. No
one deserves to be bullied "not someone like you.” “Thank you,” the boy manages to force
out. He’s shaking from the aftermath of the fight. “I never had friends
before…” “Because of your abilities? Because
they’re the very thing that make you, you.” Kiley empathizes, “no one can take
that away from you and now you have us to watch your back.” © 2015 PeasantKing16Author's Note
