Someday, I will be a motherA Poem by SophiaW.Poem about being a female and a mother.Someday, I will be a mother Someday, I will be a mother Or I will not be. That does not change my perception of myself. That does not change my perception of femininity. My mother told me never to let a man rule my life I never saw it then Instead, I saw the world through rose colored glasses In my pretty pink bows and white colored dresses, It was only when my Grandma would not believe I was smarter
than my brother, It was only when I found myself cowering in the shadows on a
night run, It was only when I saw a girl being chocked by her boyfriend
in the hallway that I began to see how equal rights on paper do not change
the mentality of the world. I tell myself, “Submissiveness is the identification of a fearful woman”. But the box I have been shoved into was not my choice My submissiveness was something I did not even understand- until my mother who awakened the dormant part of me. Now I see. Someday, I will be a mother Or I will not be. That does not change my perception of myself That does not change my perception of femininity. Women must fight for the world to take off rose colored
glasses- or they will forever wear white dresses and pink bows. © 2017 SophiaW.Author's Note
