One’s future is independent of the background

After reading chapter one I am thrilled by Brenda Coms resilient nature. It is amazing how she survived throughout her childhood by living under a bridge as it proves that her independent personality is inborn. Moreover, her confidence and optimistic nature have driven her to achieve all her dreams and goals. Her story has come in handy as it is a clear proof that backgrounds do not have an influence on my future life. Moreover, she has portrayed the importance of perseverance in life.

 I hail from a family of a single mother and therefore I am often met by several challenges, however, my challenges are nothing compared to those that Brenda underwent as she was growing up. At least I have my mother who works tirelessly to ensure I get the best, Brenda was all alone and this did not hinder her from following her path to success. 

After reading Brenda’s story, I have made up my mind to focus on the positive things only and stop making poverty an excuse in my life. I must work smart so as to gain admission to one of the best universities around.  With a higher degree, I will be assured of a high-quality job anywhere in the city. Moreover, I will finally be able to assist my mother by providing for her upkeeps and get her a good house. Generally, a higher degree will be an opening to several achievements that are to occur in my life. I too one day want my life story to be a motivation for another person just like Brenda Comb’s story has inspired me.  It is time I move out of my comfort zone and prove to the world that hailing from a poor background does not mean you will live poor, it’s up to you to chase your dreams just like Brenda did.

i don't agree totally with your statement, I think background affect our future, if we come from somewhere, we will carry something from it in our heart, if we've faced poverty, challeges, all kind of bruises, they will stay with us, but as Caroline Myss said in her TED Talk, we have to turn those difficulties into our source of wisdom and not live into them, and this part you said it well, so sometimes because we went through a difficult time, we make the decision to move forward and shake things, it's like we invest in those bad and difficult things to turn them into the best things, of course as you said we can have a future diffrent than our current situation or our past, but believe you me it's always the background that pushes us to change things, to accept some, to refuse or improve others,I wish you all the best, and the future that you deserve.
