Stay For One Last Drink

Stay For One Last Drink

A Poem by Sonia Sultana

When I shut my eyes you're with me,
but I know soon I have to set you free.
I know you're going to leave me anyway
But the only relief is that you are mine today.

I don't have any proof of your existence
I know you're not guilty, it's just the distance.
They say you look happier without me
And this is not how a relationship should be.

I know this 'us' is going to end soon
But I'll still wait for you every afternoon.
This is not how our relationship began
But this was definitely not in our plan.

You know this was real in my heart
But I wish if we could ever restart.
The number of days we spent together,
Wish I could save them, hold them forever.

Instead of leaving, please linger around the door
I promise I'll make things right just like before.
I know it will hurt, it will be uncomfortable
But l will fight for us even if I'm vulnerable.

Please don’t leave me with myself
It's hard for me to hate you like anyone else.
If you leave, at least forget to take your wallet
and stay for one last drink in our favourite goblet.
