Angel In DisguiseA Poem by Scarlet LetterMy little girl
Her dark brown curls
Tussled in the wind, Her new yellow sundress Tattered from play, Dirt smeared on her rosy cheeks And under her nails, But she doesn't care. The smile on her face As wide as the sky Her expression beaming with joy Innocent and trusting She looks up at me in delight With those large brown eyes As if I've been gone a century Rather than a moment. My heart overflows with love At each tiny glance. She screams with glee And skips to my side Arms reaching up with anticipation Trust and affection Revealed in each movement. I pluck her from the field The smell of wild flowers Like perfume on her skin Her little arms Envelop my neck I cradle her in return. I could not ask for A more perfect moment than this. We move inside It's time for good nights She kneels beside the bed Asking God to bless Mommy and daddy and her Then climbs under the covers. With heavy eyes And one more kiss She tells me she loves me And drifts off to sleep. I can't help but stare At this shining jewel Full of hopes and dreams. I lift a curl from her cheek And tuck it away As I whisper in her ear I love you too My little angel in disguise.
