SurrenderA Poem by Scarlet LetterGood-bye Autumn
The children that once played
Beneath his boughs Have scurried to the warmth of their homes Selfishly forgetting their friend To stand in solitary Left to her mercy The wind, Her minion, Whips around his head, Beating him in to submission. He clings to the hope he once had That love and life would surround again. But as his gaze pierces his environment, He sees none. His friends and family Have already given in to her demands. A chill rattles his spine... He relinquishes his treasure. He is left vulnerable, Naked, Alone. He closes his eyes one last time And breathes a sigh As a single tear drop rolls down And freezes in its place. Lady Winter is upon them now, She covers them all in her sheet of ice. Now all they can do is wait, Freezing, Afraid, Until Spring can break through And save them from her icy grip.
