Like the MusicA Poem by Somber Eyes
I've heard so many people
say that they don't like a song Because it doesn't fit into a mold, and I think that's wrong It doesn't matter how the music may be classified The only thing that matters is how it makes you feel inside Don't tell me you don't like something because of the hole you try to force it in Judge it on its own merits not by genre or some other abstraction No matter how I try I can never understand How you can dislike music simply by those who are its fans Like the music Like the music for what it is Judge it on its own Not by its genre, fans, or the music biz Like the music for how it makes you feel Make your judgment based on something real You say you don't like a song because it's by band XYZ I could never be so stupid what's wrong with your mentality? I don't know how you do it I will never be like you I will not limit the music that I listen to If you ask me what I think about some artists' rivalry I'll tell you I could not care less It really doesn't matter to me Unless it overflows into the music I just don't care Until then, I will keep acting as if it isn't there Like the music Like the music for what it is Judge it on its own Not by its genre, fans, or the music biz Like the music for how it makes you feel Make your judgment based on something real You told me a while back that I can't like Skid Row That's funny, they were good enough for you so many years ago Now you're making fun of me 'cause I'm listening to Hilary Duff How can you be so obtuse? I have had enough Megadeth and Dido Rick Braun and Fear Factory Kamelot and the Goo Goo Dolls a-ha and Corrosion of Conformity Anthrax, Jewel, and Morphine Morten Harket and Lindsay Price Mötley Crüe and Tears For Fears Alice Cooper and Fireflight Pat Benatar and Moonspell Billy Idol and Mandy Moore Aerosmith and Lesley Roy Bohren & der Club of Gore Cinderella, Garbage, and Shadows Fall Nine Inch Nails, the Vandals, and White Lion Ozzy Osbourne, Warrant, and Billy Joel Automatic Loveletter and King Diamond Chris Isaak and Linkin Park Lacuna Coil and Corey Hart Testament, Joe Pesci, Snow Pro-Pain, the Damned, NOFX, and Poe Rapture, Europe, Bangles, Tuff Iron Maiden, Skid Row, Hilary Duff Everygrey, Kelly Sweet, Ashlee Simpson Diary of Dreams and Bad Religion Air Supply and Tiffany Aly & AJ, Lillix, and Tree Madonna, Biohazard, Tesla Trans-Siberian Orchestra Queensrÿche, Ratt, and Ace of Base The Donnas, Rod Stewart, and Mercyful Fate Pink Floyd, Bonfire, Ugly Kid Joe A Fine Frenzy, Savatage, Slayer, and Falco Kim Wilde, Cold, and Acid Bath Green Day, Samiam, Johnny Cash Pink, Rancid, Barry Manilow Dokken, Chris Botti, Green Jellö Foreigner, Journey, and Rolling Stones The Hooters, the Outfield, and Howard Jones Candlebox and Henry Rollins Pennywise, Headboard, and Phil Collins Edie Brickell and Leonard Cohen Type O Negative and Lindsay Lohan "Weird Al" Yankovic, Shania Twain Willie Nelson, Chet Baker, Wham!, and Staind Crash Test Dummies and CCR Duran Duran, Def Leppard, and Crowbar Halestorm, Stabbing Westward, Hole Lita Ford, James Darren, and Smile Empty Soul I'm telling you, there's nothing wrong with musical diversity Just listen to the music, don't pay attention to its category Before you judge the music just give it a chance Don't judge it sound unheard don't take that ignorant stance Like the music Like the music for what it is Judge it on its own Not by its genre, fans, or the music biz Like the music for how it makes you feel Make your judgment based on something real © 2013 Somber Eyes |
