The door slammed shut
behind her as she stormed out of the room
Shouting out obscenities
as she said we were through
She would not give a reason why, just
that she wanted more
I stared blankly ahead as my heart dropped
down to the floor
The
door closed quietly, we both knew it was the last time
She said
that she was leaving, but her heart would always be mine
She had a
list of reasons, truth was I was never enough
The hands with which
I held her heart were always much too rough
She
pounded on my chest as her head whipped from side to side
She was
hysterical, but it was she that always lied
She was the one who
strayed while I remained the faithful part
Now her infidelities
have pulverized my heart
Her
eyes were tearing up, she did not want to go away
But Death was
looming in the shadows, coming any day
The last few days we had
together, we were never apart
When Death finally came, he took my
love and all my heart
She
kicked and screamed, did not believe the words that I had said
She
kept insisting that I took another woman to bed
She was too
insecure, so her heart just could not believe
That I loved only
her the same way she loved only me
I
was awoken by a gentle rapping on my door
Roused from sleep, my
eyes bleary, my feet slid to the floor
Opening the door, my heart
broke, knowing what it meant
Two policemen waiting to say there
had been an accident
Speaking
in calm, even tones, we talked of what we had
We both agreed it
wasn't working, but we weren't really sad
We parted ways as
friends, nothing acrimonious to say
We tried it and it didn't
work, maybe we'll try again some day
On
the way to the restaurant, my car made a terrible sound
It stopped
and wouldn't start, and no cell signal could be found
Already late
for a date, I knew this would be a mess
She dumped me 'cause I
stood her up, thanks Verizon Wireless
