Aloft

Aloft

A Poem by Somber Eyes

I hear the footsteps above me
It's like they're treading on my soul
Back and forth all day and night
To keep me down in this hole

I'm just waiting for my moment
Then I'll make my move
I have to wait until the time is right
When everything falls into the groove

In that moment, there will be a bright light
As all of my energy ignites
I'll burst forth, leaving all of this behind
With my new wings, I will take flight

Flying high above the rooftops
Where eagles and angels dare to fly
Kept aloft by arctic winds
A single tear will fall from my eye

A tear for what goes on below
A tear for all the spoken lies
A tear for all the broken hearts
A tear for all the last goodbyes

A tear for all the pain and fear
A tear for all the misery
A tear for all the senseless hatred
A tear for lost humanity

Flying high, beneath the heavens
Flying high, where the air is thin
Searching for a vessel of love
To complement the love within

For when our two hearts beat as one
Peace will find a home in me
And that shared love will keep me safe
For all eternity
