Snowfall

Snowfall

A Poem by Somber Eyes
"

A short, rather dark piece that came to me while looking at the dark grey sky.

"

It was a sad, cold winter's day
The snow was falling, here to stay
The ground was frozen, covered in white
The snow kept falling well into the night

The cold, white layer steadily grew
The snow kept falling, what were we to do
Couldn't open the doors, the snow was too high
The snow kept on climbing, reaching to the sky

Thirty inches, sixty inches, ninety inches, on
Would we still be alive when the snow was finally gone
When we could open up our doors and see the bright blue sky
Or was this how everything would end, was this how we would die

The snow kept falling, covering the windows, then the roofs
Falling down chimneys, blanketing fireplaces, too
Fires were put out by the snow's dampening effect
The roof creaked under pressure and it caved in while we slept

It was a sad, cold winter's day
I didn't think it would end that way
I never thought that it would be
The last day I would ever see
