Water Main Break

A funny little thing I wrote when I heard of a broken water main.

Water main is broken
Water's gushing into the air
Water pressure drops, then stops
Can't get water anywhere

Dirty dishes go unwashed
Human bodies, too
Bathing must be put on hold
What are we to do

Cooking is now impossible
There is no water to boil
Oh look, the water is flowing again
But it's filled with muddy soil

Dirty water is flowing
But it goes straight down the drain
There's no way I am drinking that
I'm not quite that insane

Upset is what I am right now
The break was repaired posthaste
But dirt has contaminated so much water
And I have to pay for that waste

The water and sewer bill does not care
If the water is dirty or clean
It only cares what its meter says
The volume that its eyes have seen

Go ahead, file a complaint
If it makes you feel better
Put down on paper what you wish to say
Write a most eloquent letter

But we all know that it won't change a thing
Abatements, we shall never give
So take your muddy water and just thank us kindly
For fixing the break when we did
