Softly We Kiss

Softly We Kiss

A Poem by Somber Eyes

I see you from across this crowded old bar
And you're too far away, I cannot reach that far
But the look in your eyes tells me to take a chance
So I steady my nerves and calm my trembling hands

But such actions are futile, nervousness remains
And fears of rejection are clouding my brain
So I hurry on past you and walk out the door
With another lost chance lying dead on the floor

But you don't leave it that way, you follow me out
You confront me and ask what was that all about
I try to speak, but don't know what to say
But you see in my eyes the thoughts I can't convey

You reach for my hand and sparks fly at your touch
Reminding me of things that I miss so much
With your hand on my face, a smile crosses your lips
Then you lean in to me and so softly we kiss
