The Abyss

The Abyss

A Poem by Somber Eyes

Thrust into the dark abyss

Of my own unhappiness

The sun will never shine in here

This place of misery and fear

Walking blindly down the hall

Stumbling, I trip and fall

Over my uncertainty

Which keeps my heart from flying free

Moving on, I come across

All the chances that I lost

To strangling paralysis

Reaching up from the abyss

Insecurities abound

And confidence cannot be found

In this sea of no dimension

Peering back from my reflection

Perhaps my single greatest fear

The one which keeps me trapped in here

Is the fear of being rejected

Never having been accepted

Fear that I won't be good enough

Or that my heart may say too much

Keeps me from finding my voice

Convinces me that I have no choice

If this fear could be overcome

Then perhaps I could find the one

Who would bring me happiness

And save me from the dark abyss

But until the time arrives

When I will not be paralyzed

My fears will reach beyond the mist

And pull me into the abyss
