Somber Eyes

A Poem by Somber Eyes

This poem was written as a second email to someone on a dating site, after the first email received no response.

"

Your silence, it speaks out to me

It says the things which cannot be

I'm not quite sure how I can cope

And so I'm holding on to hope

But that hope is fading fast

As the mold is poured and cast

For my heart's final resting place

When all my hope has been erased

I'm hoping that we can be friends

But it appears this is the end

Looks like you won't write back to me

There's no reply that I can see

And so my hope will fade away

Bit by bit and day by day

Until the time when nothing's left

And all my hope is put to rest

On that day I'll shed a tear

Another chance lost to my fear

A tear for what will never be

One more missed opportunity

Just one more thing that I'll regret

In time I hope that I'll forget

The source of all these nightly cries

The reason for these somber eyes
