Vacancy

Vacancy

A Poem by Somber Eyes

I heard a wise man say the true measure of worth

Is what you leave behind when you leave this earth

But as for me, I don't think I'll leave behind

Anything meaningful when my time arrives

I'm looking inside, staring deep into my soul

But all I see is emptiness, a vacant hole

There's no love to see, no passion to be found

Just a tattered note lying on the ground

It says:

There's nothing left of me

Just a vacancy

It's over and done

I could not find the one

Spent all of my time

But still I couldn't find

The cure for all my pain

Love denied again

So many nights I lie awake beneath the stars

Wishing that I had the strength to reach that far

Because this earth has given me nothing but pain

The world is laughing as I'm drowning in the rain

I wish that I could go to sleep and never wake

I'd say goodnight and pray the lord my soul to take

But would he want my soul, this hollow empty shell

Or would he take one look and send me straight to hell?

There's nothing left of me

Just a vacancy

It's over and done

I could not find the one

Spent all of my time

But still I couldn't find

The cure for all my pain

Love denied again

There's nothing left of me

Just a vacancy

Everything I had I gave

There's nothing left to save

It's written on my face

Always felt out of place

Always missing part of me

Could never fill the vacancy

Could never fill that vacancy
