Sanitarium

Sanitarium

A Poem by Somber Eyes

I sit and stare at empty walls

As screams ring up and down the halls

Echoing the pain they hold

Telling the secrets that can't be told

The girl who sits across the way

She came to us just yesterday

No one even knows her name

But soon enough we'll learn her game

The boy, who down and to the right

Sleeps so soundly every night

Has been with us a year and a half

He's living in the aftermath

Of an abusive family that the courts pulled apart

The sadness slowly ate away at his heart

One day he tried to end it all

So now he's here, and here he'll fall

And what about the girl to the left?

She took a knife and sliced her chest

Trying to cut out her own heart

Loss of love, that was her start

She can't be helped, they say she's too sick

Prozac and Valium doing their trick

The zombie-like trance, what a waste of life

They should have let her finish with the knife

Inside this place, we're all diseased

By hopelessness and insanity

No one to speak to, nobody calls

We don't know life beyond these walls
