Death

Death

A Poem by Somber Eyes

Death,

The purpose of life,

The day for which we all wait.

Since the day

We're brought into this world,

We wait to enter Death's domain.

Nothingness,

A null, a void,

No consciousness and no soul.

A void in space,

An empty hole,

A place from which we'll never go.

Death,

Feared by many,

Yet guaranteed to all.

Unescapable,

Unavoidable,

That which slowly consumes all life.

Nothingness,

Which, for a minute, lives,

Claiming another life in the night.

The last breath is inhaled,

All strength is drained,

An end to the final fight.

Death cares not

Who it consumes.

Race is unimportant,

It consumes me and you.

Never takes a break,

Never stops for rest.

We are all here

Merely as Death's guests.

When Death targets us,

And all strength is drained,

Life is over,

An end to the game.
