The Last Mile

The Last Mile

A Poem by Somber Eyes

Frozen somewhere, lost in time

Try to speak, but I'm out of line

Hanging by a piece of twine

Wrapped around my neck

Voiceless visions appear to me

I don't know what this could be

Can't believe what my eyes see

And so I close them forever

With my eyes shut tight

I can clearly see the light

And I'm running down the path

But there's another set of tracks

I'm chased by Death in one last race

I try, but cannot keep the pace

He catches up and grabs on tight

With no strength left, I lose the fight
