Break the Silence

Break the Silence

A Poem by Somber Eyes

He hit you when he lost control
You think the blame is all your own
You said something you shouldn't have
You did something to make him mad

He says he won't do that again
But tomorrow he'll come home drunk and then
Will he hit or not, it's a roll of the dice
And you're the one who will pay the price

You sit there and you take the blame
Over and over, it's always the same
He says he loves you and he's sorry
But his actions speak differently

The back of his hand you know too well
And though there are many people you can tell
You stay with him like you're trapped in a cage
Too afraid of his pent-up rage

You know he does things he shouldn't do
Don't let his words brainwash you
Pain is the only dish he serves
And that's something nobody deserves

It doesn't matter how many bones he's broken
You stay with him and you keep on hoping
That some day he'll act differently
You need to learn from history

He won't stop until your dead
Why can't you get it through your head
I'm begging you to walk away
Before he puts you in the grave

Take my hand and I'll stand with you
Together we can see it through
If we ever hope to stop the violence
Then everyone needs to break the silence
