A Roof of Shingles

A Roof of Shingles

A Poem by Soma-ko
"

None.

"

A single shingle shimmers under the stars.

One with the earth, it rest against its mother’s breast.

A single shingle shimmers under the night sky,

His family scattered, unable to utter a single goodbye.

Desolate was this solitary shingle, hidden within piles of rubbish.

Covered with dirt, tears, blood, and memories of yesterday,

The cracked shingle lays there motionless.

Desolate was the solitary shingle, dreaming of the day before.

A single shingle simmers under the bright sun,

Parched, the rain of tomorrow has yet to come.

A single shingle simmers in the thin coating of silence,

Alone and forgotten, it can only hope its residences are safe.

Dissipating was the tired shingle, letting the earth engulf it.

A storm brewed the other day, metal stars fell from the sky.

Dissipating was this tired shingle, broken; it beckoned to the people,

To stop what they know as war, so that it may, too, live in peace
