For The Future Me

For The Future Me

A Poem by Soma-ko
"

Overworking is never the answer. Take a break why don't you?

"

As the flowers bloom outside,

My head is stuffed in tomes alive.

A pink petal flies across my window,

As I suffocate in the dust within my limbo.

Children’s laughs echo, and bounce off my walls.

A self-made prison I've created, for a single cause.

I study for the year ahead, and leave the rest be.

Word after words I read, I became less of me.

Book after book, was what I read all day.

Ignoring the calls, and the food on my tray.

I read and read, until I slept.

And when I awoke, I would always find that I've wept.

Wept in my sleep, for I had no time to cry.

Work, work must I, for the future, before I die.

Yes work is my life, and study I must.

As the day creeps by, morning till dusk.

Children’s laughs echo, and bounce off my walls.

A self-made prison I've created, for a single cause.

I study for the year ahead, and leave the rest be.

Word after words I read, I became less of me…

This is so meaningful and it really struck a chord with me. We often lose sight of ourselves in the midst of this crazy life. We need to remember to stay strong and always be "me"...

I understand the feeling all too well. School is a demanding mistress who's blind to the fact that she's slowly but surely killing you. This was very wonderfully written. Brings back a lot of the things I'm trying to forget.

Thank you, and I hope I didn't set you too back (in terms of forgetting).
