Phoenix

Phoenix

A Poem by Solteras

I have become a barren desert.

Waves of pouring flame,

saturate the skin"

A solid sponge.

Like clay in a kiln

my body withers,

a carcass bone-dry.

and my brain bakes

Leather hard.

Splitting skin,

cracks cover the surface.

Hands bleed,

blood seeping still.

My eyes fry in the arid air

dried like a salivaless tongue.

And in this desert

pain purges like a fire

as my cathartic heart settles.
