What You Could Have Had

What You Could Have Had

A Poem by T.A.Rogers
"

What You Could Have Had

"

You could have had the world

You could have held the sea
Cradled them in your arms
If only you were still with me

You would want for nothing

And pain you would know not

Every time you were unsure

I would hold you in my arms until you forgot

I would capture all the stars

And place them in your hand.

Only to make you happy,

I hope you understand.

I would place the stars

For all the world to see
Around your neck on a chain of silver
In remembrance of you and me.

I would have given you the skies

During sunset as they fade
Disappearing with many colors

If only you'd have stayed.

I would have given you all the nations

And dominion over all

So you could visit Paris in the spring
And Amsterdam in the fall

I would have adorned you with many jewels
Pearls and the rarest of gems

You could have had the riches of the world

If only you hadn’t chosen him.

We could have ruled all the kingdoms
And brought peace to earth and sea
You and I side by side
Our love stretching to eternity.

You could have had it all

You could have had my heart.

But one day you gave up my love

And tore my world apart.

I care not for these riches.

I care not for earth and sea.

Because my world is lost and hopeless
Without you here with me.
