If You Knew Me
By Saskia Liddick

If you knew me we would have ben friends.
We would have met at the highschool dance.
We would have danced and joked and smiled.
You would have become one of my favorite writers.
If you knew me.

If you knew me we would have been friends.
We would have met at a class for school.
We would have sang hyms and rocked the casbah.
You would have been one of my best friends.
If you knew me.

If you knew me we would have ben friends.
We would have met in section and classes.
We would have joked about random subjects.
You would have helped me out with Homework.
If you knew me.

If you knew me we would have been friends.
We would have met in the highschool band.
We would have talked during football games.
You would have named my 'food baby' as a joke.
If you knew me.

If you knew me we would have been friends.
We would have met while serving Volleyballs.
We would have sung Broadway Musicals.
You would have been taught how to squeak.
If you knew me.

But no,
You didn't become my favorite writer.
You didn't become one of my best friends.
You didn't help me out with homework.
You didn't name my 'food baby' as a joke.
You didn't learn how to squeak.
We never became friends.

Because you never knew me.

You never knew me because Daddy didn't die,
and Mommy didn't run away from home.
Papap never moved us to apartments.
I never met the boy.
The boy never lied.
I didn't get taken away from Papap.
I was never adopted.

So you never knew me.

But I knew you, after God let me change time.
You forgot about me, because we never met.
But I never forgot you.
When I see you, I remember how we danced.
When I hear you, I remember how we rocked the casbah.
When you cross the street, I remember the Homework.
When you mark time, I remember the football games.
When I hear you sing, I remember the songs.

Because I knew you, I remember you.
And I feel pain for letting you go
