Wars’ True Colors

By Saskia Liddick

There was a scarlet shining sky, splashed with foreign blood.

There was a dark colorless night, deep in a savage land.

Colors that we thought we could trust, and rely upon,

Told the deadliest lies, and lead us to the slaughter.

I realized the war has no color, no creed, no emblem.

No official rules, no mercy, no fairness.

An adult told me as a child to I should settle my problems

with peace, and I watched him march off to war, never to be,

seen again. That day I realized the horrible truth.

Wars’ true colors are the banners of our contries flags,

It’s rules are dirty, and cheating, the way we were told,

Not to act. Yet people are hypocrites, bending their own,

Rules they teach their children to act by.

The world is so corrupt.

Your words are the truth. I was in the Army for 15 years. I went to places where the world was lost to the people and the purpose of life was to live another day. Your last line is true. War had no winner. Only the poor people in the way of the desire of hate and wealth. Thank you.
