Silence

Silence

A Poem by Nurhanne Hassan

Picture this,
In a world with so many things to say
I remain silent
And even though you asked for my words
I remain silent
Because if 60 billion people have something to say
And I remain silent
59 billion people's voice will be more accurately heard
59 billion pleas, 59 billion poems, that struggle to be shared
With my two ears to be spared
You heard my song
You tried to find yourself within
Until I said stop!
Don't try to find yourself within
Let it be an usher
A ringing bell for your potential story
A wakeup call to your sleeping glory
Be the 59th billion poet
With my two ears to spare
In a world with so many things to say
I chose to remain silent
Because silence is more powerful
More expressive
More listening
Than any other word I could ever utter.
