Is your reality real?

Is your reality real?

A Story by Nurhanne Hassan

To live peacefully means to be guilt-free, and how, in a world bursting at the seams with mass murders, fatal accidents and sickness can one be guilt-free? We, humans, tend to search for a reason for every single incident, we try to put it in a mathematical equation so that it becomes a rule for later usage. Therefore, the natural course of action to take when an accident happens or when someone dies is to search for someone to blame so we can teach him his lesson and this misfortune would never take place again. So, if one sits on his comfy bed pondering the meaning of life, he'd figure out that he's resting on a squeaky fluffy mattress while others are on their death bed, getting beaten up to death or being forced to do dangerous jobs. No matter how many times you recall that there were peaceful solutions for such mess and how the perpetrators were punished if possible and disowned if not. Eventually he'll figure out that this has not stopped them from happening, so naturally he'll start beating himself up over it and blaming himself for living blisfully while others suffered. This would haunt him forever, robbing the smile from his face because he thinks of himself as undeserving of it, pushing him to do charity because that's his way of comforting his conscience and feeling like he's making a change to this terrible crime-infested world. However, he shall later discover that he cannot achieve peace and harmony until he ignores the whole thing and goes back to his trivial life, a life where mistakes and mishappenings are either fixable or replacable, a life of order and control, even if relative ones. Chasing perfection in your own self is impossible, let alone in others. Constant thinking about torment will render you broken and lifeless. Poor man, he wants to make this world a better place. Little does he know, no matter how 'better' you make it for someone, someone else is having the worst end of the stick. This shouldn't stop you from doing charity, on the contrary, this is merely a reality check, this world has never been, isn't and will never be heaven. You can't save everything, you can only try on your share and if you're lucky, others might work on their share too and the world will suck a little bit less than it did before for one person. Once you go into the dark side, you'll discover that it's the real outskirts of the pink town we're living in, it's the base of everything, thinking about it will drown you in its dark abyss, your hope can only be retained if you maintain the balance between your dark reality and your imaginary peace, it's what pushes you forward to do good deeds.
