Through Hell and Back

Through Hell and Back

A Poem by SoberBunny

“You know, through all that s**t I pulled. All those things I did. She stayed. She stayed and she fixed me, showed me I have a heart. I do, and it hurts.”

“Yeah, I know the feeling. I… my fiancé was exactly like that.”

“He went through it with you?”

“Stopped drinking altogether just to take care of me.”

“Through hell and back.”

“Yeah. You know, he actually proposed to me when I was passed out.”

“Seriously?!”

“Yeah.”

“He proposed to you in the worst of it.”

“In the thick of things.”

“Stories like that give me hope.”

“It’s like you said, angels like that show us we have a heart.”

“And we care.”

“In ‘To the Wives’, it talks about that. How alcoholics always end up with the best girls. The hardiest partners.”

“No s**t, guess sometimes we really are meant for something.”

“Bigger.”

“Greater.”

“Purpose.”

A great dialogue between people who have been to hell and back. They do not need many words to understand each other because they share a specific experience. And it is great how something that is always associated with the worst of things now gets linked to something great : ending up with a great partner.

Thanks for this!
