Through the Rain: Fire.A Story by Christina Ann Banana HamokA short story I wrote on October 10, 2007As the flames bursted through the roof of the building he pushed her through the door " Run " he screamed at her above the roar of the growing flames. She stared at him numbly, her love, her soul mate, her life. He stared back at her and with a shriek of rage he picked her up, craddling her agaist his chest he began to run towards the fire trucks that were gathering. Setting her down he turned towards the house again. Fear struck in her heart as she called out his name, her left arm extended towards him even though he was atleast twenty feet away. "What!" he asked her harshly, when he saw the tears bubbling on the rims of her eyes he came back towards her speaking softer now, the girl clung to him tightly. "Don't worry." he told her inclining her face towards him "I'm just going to see that everyone is okay, I'll be right back. You have my word" She stared at him "Then why make me stay here" she almost sobbed "Take me with you. I couldn't bare it if you went in there again." A mist of a rain fell on their faces, fire fighters pushed them back behind the trucks. He held her close to him watching the fire that consumed their home, and he realized how close he could have been to losing her. She clung to him her face pressed against his chest not wanting to see the fire any longer. As she realized how close her life would have been over if he would have died. At these thoughts the two held tighter to the other. © 2008 Christina Ann Banana HamokAuthor's Note
