Through the Rain: Past Memories.A Story by Christina Ann Banana HamokAnother short story that I wrote on September 18, 2007.Stepping outside the small reasturant she worked at, a couple rain drops hit her face. It had turned from a light drizzle to pouring rain. Sighing happily she stepped out into the rain towards her black jeep. As she walked she enjoyed every drop that landed on her. When she finally reached her jeep, she had to fumble for the right key. As she was inserting it into the door lock she saw him in the darkly tinted windows. His voice played through her head as if he was standing right next to her, calling out to her by the sweet pet name she recieved from him. Shaking her head and pulling the door open she told her self, " Last thing you need is delusions. " She sat upon the drivers seat, slamming the door shut and turning the car on. Putting the jeep into reverse she backed out of the parking lot and onto the street. Turning the radio on while at a stop sign, the speaker reported a car accident on the highway she usually took home. Groaning she turned off the radio, putting her left blinker on for the turn 'the long way home'. Switching the stero from radio to CD player, turning up the song "Better Than Drugs" by Skillet. A list of things she had to do ran through her brain. A head a blur was some what visible but was disfigured by the rain. Thinking nothing of it she kept driving a head, not slowing down. The song switched and she started mouthing the words thinking of a time in the past. She was closer to the unidentified figure, it seemed to be a large vehical, but also didn't seem to be going anywheres. Singing a verse to the song out lough ' My love is just waiting to turn your tears to roses '. When the vehical, a suburban, came out of the drive way at full speed not noticing her at all. Came rushing towards her passenger side door. From instinct she pressed on the brake peddal, the sound of screeching tires and metal slamming in to metal rang in her ears. The scream that was lodged in her throat finally released it's self. As everything around her turned black and she was lodged into the past.
4 Years Earlier . . . Irritated she threw the cell phone onto the mess of blankets and pillows on the bed. After attempting to reach him again for the third or fourth time, she finally gave up. Before returning her attention back to the movie she was watching, she looked axiously out the window. Holding her breath as a car passed by, then releasing it with a hiss as it kept going past her drive way. Unpausing the movie she became absorbed as the two main characters were arguing, when suddenly a soft thump came from the outside door down stairs. Mystified she paused the movie again and turned off the t.v. before descending quitely down the stairs, her dog behind her. Opening the outside door there he stood about two feet away he bounded up the three concreate steps his arms around her exclaiming her full name. To stunned to react right away she half heartedly embraced him back. When suddenly vicious snarles started ripping from the dogs mouth. Irritated she swapped at the dog and told him to knock it off. He stepped into the house, she put her index finger to her mouth in a signal to be quiet. She hurried upstairs and grabbed a wad of money she had collected earlier. Then again quietly decended down the stairs, he was already out side again. Handing him the money so he could pay the taxi driver, she stood off to the side. Shivering in the frosty February air she walked closer towards him, mumbling his name softly. He handed her a artifical white rose and she looked at him happily. They went back inside again she motioned for him to be quiet and they walked up the stairs together. Setting his stuff on the floor, they were on oppisite sides of the room. Staring, watching each other, when she couldn't take it any longer she half ran towards him and he caught her in his arms. They hugged and kissed each other, to her it felt as if that moment it was theirs, and only theirs. Nothing else in the world existed except him. Saying she was tired she layed on the bed, as he stood behind her telling her in a somewhat sarcastic voice " Your tired. " And he sat down on the edge next to her kicking off his shoes. Wide eyed she stared at him and told him to shush her mother and her mom's boyfriend were down stairs sleeping. Smiling, he leaned toward her and kissed her eagerly . . .
4 Years Later, Back in the present. Lights were flashing, people were bustling around her. She didn't have her eyes open but she could feel the tension and hear tensed voices. She tryed to moan but her throat was dry, attempted to move but a sharp pain snapped through out her body starting at her head. Not wanting to feel the pain again she laid still and focused on her breathing. Suddenly there was a sting in her right arm, and she slowly became unconsious. She saw him again laying next to her his arms and legs wrapped around her. . It's only a matter of time. Was her last thought. © 2008 Christina Ann Banana HamokAuthor's Note
